We are excited to announce our partnership with the Archdiocese of Kingston to offer Witness: a faith day for all grade 6 students in the CDSBEO! The theme of the day will be: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). The day will aim to empower students to be witnesses to our Catholic faith.
This year our grade 6 retreat day will take place at Hanley Hall in Smiths Falls on Thursday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Students will be picked up by bus at 9:10 at St. Francis de Sales School and will return to school in time for regular dismissal. Please send your child with snacks, a lunch and plenty of water.
As part of the St. Francis community involvement initiative, we are participating in a Food Drive for the needy again this Thanksgiving. This year, our Food Drive will be held in conjunction with the Smiths Falls Police Association. All of the groceries collected will be used in their “Stuff the Cruiser” campaign to help our local Food Bank. Each day we are asking students and staff to bring in a non-perishable food item.
Monday, Oct 1st– soup and crackers
Tuesday, Oct 2nd– canned fruit and vegetables
Wednesday, Oct 3rd– cereal/rice
Thursday, Oct 4th– canned meat, fish, or baby food
Friday, Oct 5th– pasta and sauce
Each class will tally the number of items collected and a special surprise will be awarded to the classes in each division who have demonstrated the Christian value of charity to the highest degree. Next Friday, Mme. Jordan and Mrs. Croskery’s Grade 1 Classes as well as members of our St. Francis We Team, with an escort from the Smiths Falls Police, will participate in the annual Turkey Train and will deliver the food to volunteers from the Food Bank. Thank you for your cooperation in this very worthwhile cause.
Yours in Catholic Education,
St. Francis Staff and St. Francis We Team
Dear Parents and/or Guardians and Candidates for Confirmation:
The celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation will take place this year on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 7:00 pm in St. Francis de Sales Church. This letter is addressed to parents and/or guardians of those among our youth who are possible candidates for Confirmation.
This letter formally initiates the process of preparation for those who want to receive this sacrament. There will be a mandatory meeting for parents and candidates and if possible, sponsors at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at St. Francis de Sales School (4 Ross St., Smiths Falls). It is important that you and the candidate are present as helpful information will be transmitted that evening. Candidates are asked to bring their agenda books to the meeting.
Attached is the “Registration for Confirmation” form. Parents are asked to provide information about their child’s Catholic baptism and to include a copy of their baptismal certificate (the baptismal date would be sufficient if the candidate was baptised at St. Francis de Sales Parish). If your child was baptized in another faith, please contact the Parish Office as soon as possible. Please complete the required information on the form and return it to the candidate’s teacher or to the Parish Office as soon as possible. Please attach $25 (cheques should be made out to St. Francis de Sales Parish) for the cost of the rental of the gown for the Confirmation ceremony and for other materials. Please note: If there is a hardship with regard to the gown rental please let me know. This should not be a determent to receiving the sacrament.
The Confirmation Preparation Team (consisting of myself and the teachers) look forward to working with our young people who are taking this important step on their faith journey. We pray that the Holy Spirit will fill your hearts and lives with His gifts of faith, love and joy.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Rod McNeil, Pastor

Dear St. Francis de Sales Families,
Thirty-eight summers ago, a young man from British Columbia captivated Canadians with his determination, commitment, energy and passion to find a cure for cancer. His name was Terry Fox. St. Francis de Sales School will participate in a Terry Fox School Run/Walk Day on Thursday, September 20th at 1:00 p.m. (Rain date: September 21st).
A school-wide assembly will take place on Friday to kick-off our “Tutus for Terry” fundraising campaign. Depending on who gets the most votes, one member of the St. Francis de Sales staff will wear a lovely tutu for the day. Who will it be?????
Children in Kindergarten to Grade 5 are asked to collect “Toonies for Terry” from only family members and close friends. We discourage students from going door-to-door to collect toonies. Please see the information form that went home today, complete and and return it to school by next Thursday. Students are invited to start bringing their toonies to their classroom teacher beginning Monday, September 17th. Place the toonies and the ballot in a Ziploc baggie. More ballots can be sent home at your request. Online payment of toonies can also be made through Cash On-line.
Students in Grades 6 to 8 will bring Pledge Forms home which are to be returned next Thursday. Of course, our older students will have an opportunity to cast their votes as well for the Tutus for Terry campaign.
Our goal is to surpass the $2556.00 raised last year by St. James and St. Francis Schools combined. If we can do this, we will have a school-wide Foxy-Soxy Outdoor Dance… (more information on this to come…).
Walk Day on September 20th: Your child is asked to wear a WHITE SHIRT/T-SHIRT as a symbol of HOPE. Each member of the St. Francis community will also wear a pinney/bib indicating who they are running for. The lucky Tutu-Wearer will lead the student body in two walking laps around our school. Grades 3-8 classes will then make their way to Lower Reach Park while our K-2 classes will walk around the school neighbourhood. To participate in the walk, the school must have received your child’s
completed and signed Walking Permission form that was sent home by the office during the first week of school.
Thank you for supporting our Terry Fox Day and for bringing us one step closer to Terry’s dream of a world free of cancer.
“BRAVE SOUL WHO TOOK THE LONG AND PAINFUL ROAD… AND HELPED CREATE A DREAM THAT COULD NOT FAIL.”
The Terry Fox Committee,
St. Francis de Sales School
