Gr. 1 French Immersion 2017-2018 Parent Meeting
As you know, your SK child has the opportunity to enrol in the Grade 1 French Immersion program next year. This would mean that half of the day would be instructed in French (French Language, Science, Gym, the Arts and Social Studies), and half would be in English (English Language, Math and Religion). If you do not choose to enrol your child in the French Immersion program, they will be placed in the English class where they will receive 30 minutes of French language each day.
The program decision for your child for Grade 1 should be made using a variety of factors so that your child’s academic growth is positive. The Term I report card (received in February) as well as input from current English and French teachers will provide an excellent source of information on your child’s ability to be successful in the Immersion program.
To assist you with this decision, we will be having a French Immersion parent meeting on Wednesday, April 5th at 6:00 pm at the school. This important meeting will outline all of the factors and considerations involved with deciding on the best program for your child. It is strongly recommended that you attend this meeting if you are serious about making this choice for your child. The French and English Grade One teachers as well as your child’s kindergarten teacher will be there to talk to you about the programs and will be available to consult with you to determine the most successful option.
Registration forms will be given at this time as well; we ask that they be returned no later than May 2nd.
If you are unable to attend but are interested in the Grade One French Immersion Program, your child’s current English and French teachers will be contacting you soon to provide information and input on this important decision.
We hope to see you on Wednesday, April 5th. Thank you for your continued support.
